Winter walk - NOT amateur radio (Tuesday)
On Christmas Day the weather was dull, but Boxing Day (the day after Christmas) was cold and sunny, so we went for a walk to burn off a few of the Christmas excesses. We walked around the village of Lode, near Cambridge.

What was this? - NOT amateur radio
This odd building, now very derelict, is on sale in a nearby village (Lode) for £250000. It looks like it was once a shop, but its odd design suggests it was once something else. Sadly, I do not know its history. In decent condition it would probably sell for over £1M. Nice restoration project for someone!

Lode village - NOT amateur radio
Yesterday, we did a walk with 2 of our grandchildren at Lode, which is a village near us. The photo shows them outside a thatched cottage. As you can tell, they were not keen on the photo!

Burwell Lode - NOT amateur radio
Burwell Lode runs from the River Cam to the village. They are man-made a bit like canals. The Lode to nearby Reach was built by the Romans about 2000 years ago. Reach was once an important port. At one time they carried commercial traffic like coal, although these days it is mostly leisure traffic like canoes and narrowboats with hardly any commercial traffic.

Wild walk - NOT amateur radio
Yesterday we did a nice walk along Burwell Lode. We saw several marsh harriers. The photo shows where Burwell and Reach Lodes meet. Lodes are very ancient waterways that once carried important trade thousands of years ago.
