IC7100 from Icom
When it comes to new 100W HF rigs the new IC7100 looks to be relatively good value at just under £1300 in the UK. This includes 4m and 70 cm coverage and DSTAR. I am a little skeptical about the clarity of the LCD touchscreen display. Other good rigs don't cover 4m or bands above 6m.I am still tempted when I get " released" from my hospital prison. My heart is still in QRP but the Elecraft KX3 is a similar price with just 8-10W,fewer bands and arguably less well suited to base station digital use. We'll have to see when I get out of my hospital "prison". I may just buy a second FT817 and another auto ATU.

IC7100 prices

The usual UK price is about the same in pounds as it is in the USA in dollars, so I guess around £1800-1900 is likely to be the going price, although I don't think the UK dealers have them yet.
At the time of writing there are only a couple of reviews of the IC7100 at www.eham.net

IC7100 Sneak Preview Video
There is a short YouTube video clip from ICOM America describing the IC7100 with a look at the various connections on the head and main unit. The thing that impressed me was just how small this transceiver is. It looked larger in the earlier pictures. The IC7100 is likely to be on sale in the UK in late spring at around £1700-1800 without the D-star option. Not cheap, but a lot of radio.
The specification of the IC7100 is available here.

IC7100 price
Whilst checking the trade-in value of my Elecraft K1 transceiver with Martin Lynch yesterday (in my case for another FT817), I asked when the IC7100 was likely to be available in the UK and its likely price. Indications are that the IC7100 is going to be here in the spring with a price tag of around £1700. This does not include the D-star option. Clearly these dates and prices are not certain. It will be considerably more expensive than the IC7000 though. That much is certain.
An IC7100 at that price is rather more than I would want to pay, but if it was to last 12 years like my current FT817 already has, it might be worth it, especially with 4m, 2m and 70cm coverage. On the other hand, a second (additional) FT817 would do all I really need at under a third of the price!

IC7100
As yet, I have not heard any more firm news on price and availability of the IC7100. There was a rumour that the US price was going to be around $1875, but I have no idea where this figure came from. If correct, it sounds far far too much.
Although I am a QRP person, this rig does appeal to me: the very comprehensive band coverage (including 4m) would make it a good main station radio. With the IC7000 being just over £1100 I would expect the IC7100 to be somewhat more than this, at least at first, but not as high as the figure above which would translate to around £1875 with import duties, VAT and dealer mark-ups.
What would be really nice would be an "IC703 version" of the IC7100 i.e. a 10W pep version. Now if Icom produced one of these a lot of QRP enthusiasts would sit up.

IC7100 - will there be a QRP version available in the USA and Europe? |

IC7100 for 1 penny??
Amused to see the Nevada advert for the Icom IC7100 on their website. At this price I would expect this high end mobile/home station multimode to be sold out!
Nice price for the IC7100 ! |

New ICOM all-band multimode
Icom have announced that they will be introducing a new multi-mode, multi-band radio called the IC7100 which includes 70MHz at 50W on some versions. This is, to my knowledge, the first time one of the big manufacturers has properly included 4m in the design. I know at least one Yaesu rig was capable of working on the band, albeit with some compromises. The new Icom rig has a separated control head with a sloping front, which is ideal for desktop operation and mobile. It will be interesting to see the price and when it is likely to be launched. Also, whether or not they intend to do a 10W version (like the IC703) which was very popular with QRP enthusiasts.
