At 1324z I got a spot from FR1GZ (9724km) on 10m WSPR. A few minutes later he spotted me again twice. It looks likely that my little 10m WSPR beacon will be spotted in the USA later.
UPDATE 1855z: USA spots started today at 1542z. There seem to be spots from the USA on 10m WSPR most days now.
UPDATE 1924z: Lots of Germans on 10m WSPR. Out of season Es?
UPDATE 2010z: All quiet now on 10m and 6m WSPR, although I shall be on both bands overnight.

Reunion Island but no USA yet on 10m WSPR
FR1GZ (9724km) on Reunion Island in the south Indian Ocean has spotted me many times this afternoon, but not a single spot, well not yet, by a station in the USA. By this time yesterday a lot of USA stations had spotted me. This is the magic of 10m - you can never be quite sure. Although FR1GZ was probably just F2 , it is possible this was a combination of Es and F2?

FR1GZ WSPR
Just took a look at http://wsprnet.org/drupal/wsprnet/spots for FR1GZ spots both given and received. It is amazing that he has so many real DX reports in the log. I guess this is partly because Reunion Is is very remote. Already he has been spotted here 14 times and he has spotted me 3 times so far today. Many of his reports are greater than 16000km .

T5/T61AA and FR1GZ - real DX
T5/T61AA (6960km) in LJ22pa in Mogadishu, Somalia, East Africa has just been spotted weakly on 10m WSPR. This is Ross who was in Afghanistan.
FR1GZ on Reunion Island has been spotted many times today, including 10 times, so far, since lunchtime.
UPDATE 1342z: T5/T61AA is now being spotted stronger.
UPDATE 1540z: FR1GZ has been spotted 16 times since the start of lunchtime. He was also coming in earlier in the day too. Excellent.

10m F2 good this afternoon
FR1GZ http://files.qrz.com/z/fr1gz/FR1GZsat.JPG |
4X1RF (3519km) has copied me 17 times so far on 10m WSPR today.
If there are South Americans active, I expect to see these later in the day. Long distance propagation seems better on 10m today than yesterday.
Currently there are just 22 active stations in the world on 10m WSPR. It is a real pity it isn't 4 or 5 times this number. I am sure openings are being missed due to the low WSPR activity. Let us hope activity picks up soon on this special band.
UPDATE 1640z: Since FR1GZ earlier, it has been quiet on 10m with just M0EMM (192km) and local G0LRD (25km).
UPDATE 1645z: There is an absence of South Americans on 10m WSPR, but quite a few USA stations. I hope some South Americans come on soon, as I think 10m will be open in that direction soon.

10m F2 this afternoon/evening
Not unexpectedly, FR1GZ (9724km) was spotted here by 10m WSPR at 1520z. I was expecting to spot him earlier. OK2SAM (1283km) has been spotted by Es many times this afternoon. LU7YW is on and may spot me later with luck. He seems to be RX only.
UPDATE 1925z: PT2WWV (8873km) was spotted by F2 3 times after teatime. He has spotted my 2W once.
UPDATE 1940z: As 10m is still open to South America, I have decided to stick with the 10m band and NOT move to 472kHz until later tonight, if at all.
UPDATE 2105z: PT2WWV (8873km) is still coming through at 2056z. He has spotted me 5 times and I have spotted him 14 times this evening so far. I suspect the band will be open a while longer. There is still a lot of Es around too. Today 10m has been very good.

FR1GZ (F2 DX) and a storm coming?
1204z saw FR1GZ (9724km) in the log for my first F2 DX on 10m today. I hope he spots me too although I am running less power (2W ERP) than his 5W. He was only -25dB S/N, not too strong.
Looking at the lightning map, there is a nasty storm currently coming our way. It is over Bedford as I write and moving ominously closer. Much closer and I shall have to disconnect everything and go QRT until it has passed. Another 20 minutes should tell me if it is coming this way or will just miss us. There are other storms further south too. Today looks like our unlucky day. It is raining hard - not looking promising! Latest flash over St Neots. The storm coming our way from the Cotswolds may be tracking just NW of us and may miss us, again.

10m WSPR - F2 this afternoon
FR1GZ (9724km) running 5W was spotted on 10m WSPR today at 1352z at -21dB S/N. No other DX - Es, F2 or GDX - has been seen since (yet). The band did, at least, open deep into the Indian Ocean (Reunion Is). Maybe we'll see South America later?
UPDATE 1812z: G8JNJ/A (184km) was spotted after a very quiet afternoon at 1708z, but nothing since then.
UPDATE 1923z: CX2ABP (11127km) copied at -22dB S/N at 1844z (and earlier) from Montevideo. Yet moretdecent F2 propagation. LB9YE was spotted at 1858z. No Es seen since then.
UPDATE 2145z: With a (distant) threat of storms, WSPR has been closed down, antennas disconnected and rigs and PC unplugged from the mains. Think the risk is greater tomorrow, but better safe than sorry. Will resume on either 6m or 10m tomorrow if weather safe. According to http://www.lightningmaps.org/realtime?lang=en there are storms moving up from France. By tomorrow morning they could be here?

10m WSPRing again
In view of the poor level of DX activity on 6m WSPR, I have started today on 10m. Near immediate success with 3 spots of OE6PWD (1230km) around 0900z. This is clearly Es. Looking at my spots, I think I caught the tail end of an Es opening (reports are getting worse over time).
Sunspot count today is 87 and 20-30MHz conditions are "normal", so we may see some long distance F2-layer propagation on 10m. May try 6m later, if some DX stations (esp. USA and Canada) are active. Otherwise I'll stay on 10m.
FR1GZ (9724km) was spotted at 0922z for the first signs of F2 propagation. The band is clearly open N-S for real DX.
UPDATE 1411z: FR1GZ has spotted me a couple of times and he has been a consistent F2-layer signal all day with around 13 spots in the log today. OH6GKW (1839km) is now being spotted on Es.

10m WSPR
Not as many stations being copied as in the last few months and only G3JKV (123km) copying me so far today. 4X1RF who always seems to copy me seems not to be on right now on 10m. We'll see how things develop later in the day, but is this the start of the very slow slide down to the minimum? Must just go and move frequency about 10Hz in case I am sitting under a big station.
UPDATE 1130z: Just exchanged 10m WSPR spots with FR1GZ (9724km) on Reunion Island in the Indian Ocean. He is using 5W and me 2W. Conditions must still be reasonable. No stateside signals seen yet.
UPDATE 1300z: G7FYO (162km) is being copied but with -3Hz shift, suggesting aircraft reflection. This is a new direction too (IO82), nowhere near London's busy airports. These inter-G spots will be our 10m "bread and butter" in a few years' time when the long DX wanes.
UPDATE 1425z: Interesting that not one stateside station copied yet here today so far. A few Europeans are reaching the USA, but not me. It looks as if transatlantic DX will not be seen here today now.

Reunion Island copied again on 10m WSPR
FR1GZ has been copied very well here again this afternoon on 10m, some 15dB above the typical threshold for WSPR signals. He is running 10W, so there is a good chance he will copy my 5W from the FT817.

Reunion Is on 10m WSPR
This morning I was decoding the 10W WSPR signals of FR1GZ in Reunion Island at 9724kms. I was hoping 10m would open to the USA this afternoon and I'd hear some W and VE stations coming through in the ARRL CW DX contest, but nothing heard so far. 15m is full of USA CW stations though.
