New seasonal DX record on 474.2kHz last night

Last night I received several spots from DL4RAJ at 990km,which is a record, so far this year, for my QRP WSPR signals on 474.2kHz. I am hopeful of better results yet.

My 10mW EIRP maybe be a bit over-estimated as I forgot to divide the measured voltage by 1.414 to convert to RMS from peak. This means my ERP was closer to 5mW, even lower than I had expected, even though I am still showing 10mW ERP on WSPRnet.. This proves, even more, that high power and fancy big antennas are NOT needed to have fun on 474.2kHz MF.

500kHz WSPR - 990km already tonight

This map shows people who have copied my 500kHz WSPR signal (using the new transverter) up to 11.20pm tonight. Best DX report so far is DL4RAJ at 990km from near the Czech border who gave me an astounding +5dB S/N report, a signal level good enough for a CW QSO.

So near but so far on 500kHz

Last night again produced some decent DX reports with the 1mW ERP 500kHz station, but still I'm 10kms short of the magic 1000kms target. Best was DL4RAJ at 990kms who spotted be many times during the night. A new reporter this morning was M0GNM in IO91 - thanks for the report.

990kms on 500kHz

My 1000kms distance target on 500kHz WSPR has still not been met, but now by just 10kms: last night I was heard quite strongly at -18dB S/N by DL4RAJ 990kms away in JN68kj. The signal report and distance now make me really believe that further really is possible with the 1mW ERP station.

500kHz - an 18th station hearing me

This morning at around 0930z I received a new report for my 500kHz WSPR beacon, this time from G0HNW who is 200kms away. This brings the total number of reporters to 18. 16 were via the WSPR database and a couple of others via the RSGB LF reflector. Clemens DL4RAJ has been looking for my signal for many nights but thinks I need a further 10dB of ERP before I reach central Europe.
