These videos are created using AI. Sometimes there are mistakes, but overall they give a good impression of life in a given period. They are very clever and will only get better.

Daft video - NOT amateur radio

It is amazing how tech savvy our 8 year old grandchild is compared with us. This is a video of me that she made yesterday.

G3XBM shack and antennas

Just over a year ago I made a video showing the shack and antennas in use at that time. My voice is very poor!

Since then, I have made a few changes, but still mostly use FT8. There are other videos on the G3XBM channel, most made when my voice was OK!

Walkthrough video

Someone suggested I did this, so I have put it on my G3XBM YouTube channel. I apologise in advance for my appalling voice! You may have to view a few times to get all the words. It is a video walkthrough of the shack and antennas as of November 3rd 2018.

A free Android package called YouCut was used to make this video. It is free if you avoid the adverts and I can recommend it.

Another video being prepared

Later this weekend, I hope to have another video on my G3XBM YouTube channel. Someone suggested a walkthrough of the shack and antennas with me commentating. This I have done, although I need to put these clips together with MovieMaker, which I think is on an old PC.

My voice is bad these days, so I apologise in advance. Maybe you will have to watch a few times if you miss the odd word. If I can, I'll explain things in words on the screen if I can remember how to do this! As I said, should be ready later this weekend.

Like buses, you wait for ages, then several come along.

UPDATE  2225z: For reasons I don't understand, MovieMaker would not allow me to save the video. Over the weekend I may try a different package if I can find one.

New video

It is a while since I posted a video on my YouTube channel G3XBM.  I have just made one showing the shack and antennas as of now in October 2018.

As my voice is not brilliant, there is no voice commentary, but there is music.

It was made with iMovie using my XYLs iPad. There is an Android version, I think, but I have not used this. It is a bit sad that my 7 year old granddaughter can use iMovie to make films better than me!

Historic Amateur Video

My thanks to Amateur Radio Weekly and Steve VE7SL for pointing me to this video made in the 1920s.  Although a lot of the video is of people messing around and just having fun, there are some shots of 1920s radio gear and early QSL cards. A fascinating video, copied from an old 16mm film. Amateur radio 90 years ago - well before the Wall St Crash and WW2. An age when everything was fun? Certainly radio was still new.

472/500kHz video

There is now a short video describing the 472/500kHz 10W transverter on my YouTube channel. This shows the transverter working on WSPR with the associated simple ATU and antenna current meter, all on the operating bench.

XBM80-2 video and PCB (draft)

A short video about the XBM80-2 80m CW micro-transceiver. This is built "ugly style" on a piece of copper clad board. It will get put in a box soon! I've also been having a go at a PCB (just 1 inch square - 25mm x 25mm).

Sixbox video added

As promised, I've put a small video about the Sixbox 6m AM transceiver on my YouTube channel. You will recall that the Sixbox was a small 40mW AM transceiver derived from the 2m Fredbox. This version is built "ugly style" in a diecast box and has a tunable receiver covering about 5MHz around 49-54MHz. The Sixbox is described in SPRAT 140 and also in the German magazine QRP-Report. It is also described on my website.
