Interconnectedness

In the West we are very dependent on imported food and imported energy. Energy powers nearly everything from water supplies, banking, sewers, traffic lights, the internet etc..  If we were suddenly denied these then society would be very different. We would adapt as we always do.

I suspect there is an unwritten thing like MAD (mutually assured destruction) for nuclear weapons that if you were ever to hack us we will do the same to you. I hope so.

We haven't seen anything yet

We can all agree (I think), that the world is now more dangerous than at any point in the lives of most people born after WW2. It is my view, sadly, that things are going to get far worse.

Most trade is now dependent on long supply chains. If any link in the chain is disrupted or broken the trade collapses.

Likewise energy. Many things depend on energy. As well as food, think about transport, the internet, water, sewers, money, etc.. If one link collapses the whole of society could collapse.

I sincerely hope we don't reach this stage, but we are far more interconnected than we think.

Let's hope we wake up.  The model that has served us for many years is creaking.

New perspectives - NOT amateur radio

One thing recent Covid-19 events have taught all of us is that what we may have thought important in our lives turn out to be not important at all.  All of us has had to re-assess what really matters.

I expect for many of us, life will never be quite the same ever again. My hope is that this will lead to more compassionate societies. Certainly, in most people recent events have brought out the best in people with many showing great kindness.
