Sepura SCL3 - NOT amateur radio

In my professional life before I retired in 2008 I worked for Sepura as a design manager. In those days we led the way in TETRA radios. 

These days it seems emergency services are migrating to 4G/5G services and Sepura is producing a hand portable to allow this migration. It has a TETRA module.

It  seems amazing that I have been retired from Sepura for 16 years now! These days I am totally out of touch, but they seemed to have moved on a lot. 

Take for example the SCL3 portable (shown in the photo) that looks like a fusion of TETRA and 4G/5G technology. It looks just the product mission critical services would need. 

It looks more like a mobile phone than a traditional TETRA transceiver. I hope it is successful.

Sepura - NOT amateur radio

The company I once worked for has been sold again, I understand. 

I retired in 2008. It originated as part of the Pye empire as Pye Telecom. A few years ago it was part of Hytera, but I gather it has been sold again, I think to an asset management company. 

These companies usually grow a business, then sell it again. Such companies are usually not interested in the business as such just increasing its value. To them, it is just a way of making (more) money. I hope it does OK. I am well removed from it these days, but as a once proud RF company, I still have my heart in it.

Pye Telecom - NOT amateur radio

In my working life I worked at Pye Telecom, later Sepura, retiring in 2008. You may be interested in Pye Telecom. Most of the products were PMR radios for the police and similar.

The photo shows my pass when I was at Philips Paging in California back in the late 1990s. I worked for Philips Paging for a few years. Unlike Private Mobile Radio, pagers were consumer products. We made more in one night than we made certain PMR products in a product lifetime. Every penny really really mattered as did the slightest of blemishes. We made pagers in Cambridge, Mexico and Singapore.

It seems amazing that I retired from Sepura 12 years ago!

For almost 40 years I worked in the Pye/Philips/Simoco/Sepura empire. As a design engineer, I worked on some interesting products including a few years working on pagers including a brief spell in California.

New Sepura products adopted by Met Police - NOT amateur radio

In a previous life (well it feels like that, having been retired for almost 11 years!) I worked for Sepura. Their latest products have been adopted by the Met Police, which must be good news.

Sepura specialises in TETRA terminals with an emphasis on public safety users.

Sepura and Hytera - NOT amateur radio

My old company is in the process of being taken over maybe by Hytera, which is a Chinese company. They are waiting on the UK government who are possibly concerned about security being compromised. Both the Spanish and Germans have said "OK".

It is OK to have our nuclear plants funded by the Chinese, but possibly not our public safety organisations like the police who use a system that is due to be replaced next year. Muddled thinking? 

There is also the small matter of a General Election next month. It is anyone's guess what the government will decide. Maybe they will delay until after the General Election? If they do, Sepura could go bust and lots of job losses in Cambridge. Politically, this would be bad.

Take over? - NOT amateur radio

The company I used to work for may be the subject of a take over bid from a rival Chinese company. Watching the share chat you realise that most stock brokers are simply gamblers in for a gain. And to think these parasites earn big bonuses! For what? Makes my blood boil.

Sepura Half Year Results - NOT amateur radio

The company I used to work for (8 years ago - amazing how time flies) publishes its interim results tomorrow. SEPU shares have tumbled in value since April when they gave a profits warning. There is a rumour they are the subject of a possible takeover. They are about to enter the USA with TETRA products, where they could do well. Their main business is radios where security is very important. They make handsets, mobiles and base units as well as all the software, systems and accessories.

Sepura Takeover Rumours - NOT amateur radio

Shares in my old company Sepura (SEPU) have tumbled in recent months. The LSE listed company was started in 2002. They are now rumoured to be a takeover target. Time will tell, but with TETRA likely to take off in the USA, someone should do well. Since retiring in 2008, I watch fro  the sidelines. I want them to do well. Their main market is TETRA - digital radio for professional users.

Since a profits warning earlier in the spring, Sepura share have tumbled. This was my old company before I retired in 2008. Nowadays I have no connections with the place. These days the shares are probably well undervalued. There have been takeover rumours which would probably mean a change in top management.

Although a long way below their peak, Sepura (SEPU) shares are rising again today despite a large fall in the FTSE 100 share index. At the moment they are trending upwards. You may recall that this was the company I worked for before I retired 8 years ago. How time flies!

Sepura shares rebounding? - NOT amateur radio

Although basically a very sound and profitable company, shares in my old company, Sepura (SEPU), fell this last week after a profits warning. Since then, the shares have rebounded a bit. I hope it is sustained. Sepura makes and sells secure TETRA digital radios and DPMR radios. It is now 8 years since I retired. It is a long time now.

They make TETRA and DMR (terminals and base stations) and sell these all over the world. In troubled times people will always need secure communications. Maybe now is a good time to buy shares before go up again?

They have been in profit since they were first listed.

Shares in my old company have fallen  a bit yesterday and this morning. They design and make TETRA and DMR radios, mainly where security is important.

Now may be a good time to buy? These days I have no connections with the company having long ago retired. In uncertain market conditions shares in a company involved in public safety may be a good bet?

Shares never fail to amuse me. I finished working for Sepura in 2008. Today they gave interim results for the last 6 months and these exceeded expectations. A betting man would expect their shares (SEPU) to rise. Oh no, they have fallen!!

Sepura is a FTSE listed company. They make profits every year. They recently bought their Spanish rival Teltronic. Sepura specialises in TETRA and DMR, mainly secure radios.

UPDATE 1745z:  Shares in Sepura ended the day down to 174.75, down 1.5% on the day.  Totally perverse!

Sepura to buy rival Teltronics - NOT amateur radio

Today it was announced that my old company, Sepura, is to buy its Spanish communications rival Teltronics. I have been retired 7 years now and feel quite out of touch.   I hope the acquisition goes well. Teltronics are strongest in Latin America and Spain. I suspect Sepura are keen to strengthen their position in the Americas.

Sepura designs, makes and sells TETRA radios. In recent years it has entered the DMR market where competition is very fierce.  Sepura has great opportunities in the USA where for many years TETRA was excluded for patent reasons. TETRA is a very good digital radio system for those requiring good frequency use, security and data as well as speech.

For years, Sepura has been a very successful business. Certainly one to watch for the years to come. Today Sepura shares bounced upwards strongly.

DMR products

My old company, Sepura, entered the Digital Mobile Radio market last year (as an addition to the TETRA products they already design and make) and are, as we speak, designing DMR products for sale in the near future. In recent days they've had a wake-up call from their major competitor Motorola in the form of two new DMR radios that set the benchmark. Instead I can tinker with lightbeams and VLF.
