sBITX - look at the price!!

This new 40W SDR transceiver from India is now available either as a kit or fully assembled. As it is still subject to software and firmware updates, it is called the Developer's Edition.

sBITX update?

Some months ago I blogged that the Indian designer was working on an SDR version of the uBITX. Since then I have heard nothing further and was wondering if there is an more news?

The uBITX is an interesting design and an SDR version could well be lower cost than the uBITX which is only $209 for the complete kit.

As there is hardly any wiring to do, this is probably one of the lowest cost and easiest ways to access the HF bands. Using an Si5351 synthesiser means it will be very stable on all HF bands. An SDR approach might be even better.

sBITX?

Steve G1KQH sent me an email yesterday in which he mentioned that the inventor of the uBITX, Ashar Farhan VU2ESE, is working on an SDR version. I have no details of when this will be available, but can imagine it being low cost and very interesting.

The original uBITX is available from India, with most of the hardware built (he uses a woman's co-operative to build and test the main assembly).  It is a very inexpensive way to get on the HF bands.
