One of my wife's Christmas presents was a rain gauge. We record the rain that has fallen each day and total up the month. February was very dry and, so far, in March, we have already had more than the whole of February!

Rain - NOT amateur radio
Usually this is a dry part of the UK with very little rain. February was exceptionally dry, but March was exceptionally wet. I think we had more rain in March than the whole winter! We needed the rain, but March was very dull.

Rain gauge - NOT amateur radio
One of my wife's Christmas presents was a rain gauge, so we can record the rainfall over the year. I have created a spreadsheet. The biggest issue is to record the rain each day and empty it!
Apart from today and yesterday, we have had very little rain. More is forecast later.

Windy - NOT amateur radio
At the moment here in East Anglia it is windy, but dry. I know there is rain coming later. Although our brown lawns have recovered somewhat, we still need rain. It was interesting seeing how the flowers perked up with rainwater rather than tap water.

Devon rain - NOT amateur radio
When I was growing up I lived in Devon. We had a saying, "come to sunny Devon where it rains 6 days out of 7". This photo was 4 years ago .... in the rain!

Today looks like it will be "the pits" of a day. Already it is raining heavily and there is strong wind forecast. A good day to stay home!

Rain! - NOT amateur radio
This afternoon we actually had some rain!
There was rain briefly yesterday and again today, but we have hardly had any rain at all this spring. The soil is very dry.
Although I hope for a decent warm summer, I hope it is not very hot and very dry as it was last year. What would be ideal is warm, dry days and plenty of rain after dark!

Rain - NOT amateur radio
Apart from a couple of short, sharp thunder showers we have had no real rain since May. Temperatures have been over 30 deg C for most of the summer. It has be very hot for the UK.
Today we had real rain that lasted for about 5 hours. It feels cooler too. Tomorrow temperatures should be quite low compared with a few days ago.
Our lawns are parched brown. It will take weeks for the grass to recover, assuming it will. Today's rain will have helped but we need a lot more.

Rain! - NOT amateur radio
We have had a long, hot summer with just a couple of thunder showers a few weeks ago. Tonight we had rain and more is forecast overnight After weeks of temperatures in the 30 deg C plus region, rain is welcomed. Our lawns are parched and badly in need of rain. Usually they recover, eventually. Normally we complain we get too much rain!

Rain at last - NOT amateur radio
The last time I saw rain here in Burwell was in May. Already the storm has arrived and we have rain.

Rain! - NOT amateur radio
Today we have real rain. It looks to be here for the day, perhaps easing off later. Tomorrow looks more promising. The grass needs cutting, but that can wait until next week.

Rain - NOT amateur radio
Yesterday it rained.
This is a view of Rose Crescent, Cambridge, looking towards the Market Square. If it rains in Cambridge, we are quite unlucky as rainy days are quite rare. We get them, but it rains far less in the SE of the UK than in the west.

Storms
See www.lightningmaps.org .
I am very sorry folks. About 30 minutes ago I cut my front lawn and now it is really raining very hard. According to the maps (see link) the thunder and lightning are heading this way. I shall stay on 10m and 6m WSPR for a little while, but I may well have to disconnect things soon.
UPDATE 1715z: Well, although it rained hard, the storms decided to miss us, so I am still active on 10m and 6m WSPR.

Rear lawn and ornamental cherry |
As I write this it is, guess what, raining again. I am not sure if this is why we have such intense autumnal colours this year. The reds seem more intense this autumn.

Back from (rainy) Devon
Got back from our week in Devon today. Although I packed my VX2 dual band mini portable it only got used to listen to BBC Radio 4 I'm afraid. All week, apart from a couple of brief breaks it rained and rained. There is an old saying, "come to sunny Devon where it rains six days out of seven". As much as I love the county where I, and my ancestors back to at least the 1400s lived, sadly the saying is true! Get good weather and there's nowhere else to beat it. Get a wet week and it's a bit bleak. This is a picture of Bolt Tail in better weather last Sunday.
