It can only get better - NOT amateur radio
This morning, we went for a walk at nearby Anglesey Abbey. In addition to the first snowdrops we also saw some daffodils out.

Daffodils - NOT amateur radio
Yesterday, we did a short walk in the village.
This well kept garden (seen on our walk) has lots of daffodils.

Nearly - NOT amateur radio
The daffodils in our Close are starting to flower. In a month they will be everywhere.
These have just come out in the last day. It looks like a few days will see more coming into flower.

Promise of spring? - NOT amateur radio
At this dark time of the year, my wife likes to buy some bunches of daffodils. They are usually a bargain (still) and herald better days ahead. Spring is only a few weeks away .... along with grass cutting!!
The bird migrants from Africa usually arrive in April.

Promise - NOT amateur radio
We are now just past the shortest day, but we still have winter to get through.
At least the days are getting longer although it will be some weeks before we really start to notice the changes. This photo was taken in March and keeps hope alive. Better times are ahead.
These daffodils are on the path to our church. They are only like this for a few weeks, but bring such joy.

Near us - NOT amateur radio
This is the village of Lode, about 4 miles from us. At the moment, the magnolia and daffodils look a picture.

Daffodils - NOT amateur radio
At this time of year the path to our local church is lined with daffodils.
In a few weeks they will be over.
In the two horse chestnut trees in the churchyard, the crows are busy repairing or building nests. They have been there for as long as I can remember. Life goes on. These 2 trees were planted in the 1800s to commemorate the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.

Hope - NOT amateur radio
We usually have a good show of daffodils under the trees in our close. Snowdrops are appearing everywhere now and these daffs are now pushing through. In a few weeks time, they will look great. Winter is still here, but there are signs of hope and new life.

Spring coming? - NOT amateur radio
We went for a walk at nearby Anglesey Abbey yesterday. Most of the snowdrops are on the verge of coming out and some daffodils are out. In a few weeks most will be out.
Spring and hope are around the corner.

Spring - NOT amateur radio
Although we can definitely get bad weather still, it feels like a corner has been turned and spring has come as the photo shows.
Daffodils are looking good in our village.
The clocks change to British Summer Time (BST) this weekend. Next week it is lighter in the evenings and not dark until about 7.45pm local time. We change from "indoor mode" to "outdoor mode". Sadly, this means cutting the grass!

Almost spring - NOT amateur radio
We went for a walk around the village earlier. It felt very mild and springlike. Daffodils are coming out widely now as shown in the photo.
As we are only in February there is every chance for some bad weather and snow still.

Early daffodils - NOT amateur radio
As mentioned in an earlier post, we went for a walk at Anglesey Abbey.
On the winter walk is a small clump of daffodils. A few years ago these were in flower by late November.
Judging by the photo these should be in flower soon. I quite expect these to be out this month.
Most daffodils are not out here until late January. January is the month of snowdrops.

Spring springing - NOT amateur radio
The photo shows the spring flowers at the weekend at nearby Anglesey Abbey.
In April the fields will be yellow with rape seed oil. Some hate this, but I actually like it. Until recent years it was far less common in the UK.

House plants - NOT amateur radio
My wife loves having lots of house plants and flowers around. As there are plenty of daffodils around, we have some of these in a vase. They certainly help to brighten up dull winter days!

Promises - NOT amateur radio
The first daffodils have appeared in our close.
Over the coming months we will see plenty, but like the arrival of summer migrant birds, they herald better times ahead and gladden the hearts.
This was a photo my wife took a few hours ago. Winter is here, but spring is coming.

Daffodil - NOT amateur radio
On the Winter Walk at nearby Anglesey Abbey is usually a small clump of daffodils. Normally these are the first to appear. A few years ago some were out in November. We were quite surprised that this one (the first) is only now appearing. December 29th is quite late for this clump. Even the snowdrops are only now starting to flower.

Underwhelmed - NOT amateur radio
For a few weeks my wife has wanted to see the daffodils at Hare Park, Chippenham, Cambs. Today we went.
A few weeks ago there was a splendid carpet of snowdrops. The daffodils were disappointing; several clumps had no buds. Although there were daffodils in flower, there were far fewer than we expected.

Spring? - NOT amateur radio
Yes, I know it is only February and we could still get really cold weather and snow. However, it feels like spring and the daffodils on our green are in full bloom. This picture is a few days old and they are even more in bloom today.
