Apple day 2024 - NOT amateur radio

Our next door neighbour has a large orchard and far too many apples, so he organised an apple day so we could pick some for the winter.

For once the weather was sunny and bright.

It was a lovely social occasion too.

Bumper crop - NOT amateur radio

In the orchard next door there is a bumper crop of apples. We had a very wet winter followed by a hot dry summer.

I guess these must have been ideal conditions.

Bumper Crop - NOT amateur radio

The trees in our neighbour's garden are laden with apples and pears. Usually they put their surplus fruit out for neighbours to help themselves.

I mentioned before that a friend makes crab apple jelly with our crab apples. Although last year we had a miserable crop, this year is splendid.

Apples - NOT amateur radio

We have had a decent summer. It has been moderately sunny, but not the unbearable heat we had last year. The apples on the trees are ripening as are the plums.  The photo shows the apples in the lane leading up to "our" windmill.

Apples - NOT amateur radio

Our next-door neighbour has a big garden with apples and pears. Generously, he puts a box outside his house so neighbours can help themselves.

Apple picking - NOT amateur radio

Some friends of ours have apple trees that are very heavily laden. We were given a bag to take home. We have been advised to cut them open first as they are sweet and the maggots like them too. Extra protein?
