According to Southgate News the IARU is considering a new VHF and up only licence in the hope of encouraging activity. I guess many these days head to HF as contacts tend to be over longer distances. In the past quite some fun could be had on 144MHz and 432MHz. Often tropo was better on 432MHz.

Sorry but you should re-read the news item - IARU are not consoidering anything at all like that - they are only concerned with very serious threats to 144 MHz and 23cms...

Yes, you are right and I am wrong. There is a threat to the VHF and UHF bands and a new entry level licence may help.
