Low tech internet - NOT amateur radio

We get very spoilt here with internet speeds approaching 30MB per second commonplace with fibre-optic cable. In some rural areas such speeds are unheard of, especially in 3rd world countries. Some have taken to making their own internet networks.

Your certainly spoilt for sure with your cable service! I only get on average a 3MB service over the BT lines, but I can still get Youtube and BBC iPlayer service down it without any problems..

We should remember it was not so long ago we were all on the dialup, and the average 56K modem only achived around 40KBs.

What did we do in the days without it? Happy days :-)

My first internet was with a 2.4k modem over long distance phone lines to London. How times change. Virgin Media are upgrading our speeds to twice the current figures shortly too. This will be about 2000 times faster than those early days!
