Nevada - they clearly don't want my business!

Having asked again for a good deal on the President Lincoln 2 mono-band transceiver for 10m, this was their second reply:
Dear Sir,
Thank you for your email. I can confirm that the warranty is 12 months from the date of purchase. Unfortunately however, at this time we are not able to reduce the price but wish you well with your purchase.
Regards

Helen Wells
Nevada
Not even discount for a fully upfront cash sale! Clearly this dealer is not interested in my business. A 12 month warranty is also pathetic these days. A 3 yr Square Deal warranty on eBay is only 34 pounds. As a main dealer I was expecting a decent response from Nevada, especially as the similar Anytone rig is over 100 pounds less to buy.

All I can say is others offer a better deal, even without negotiation. Nevada, YOUR loss, sorry.

Had you offered a 2yr warranty and 20 pounds cash discount the sale would have been yours.

Roger, I admire your technical contributions a lot, and
always have done, but I think you're being a bit silly here.

Most retailers have already accounted for a 1.5% credit card charge in their pricing and the headline pricing in
the modern world reflects that first, so in reality you can
only really haggle for the 1.5% if offering cash.

Expecting anything more is the usual tactics of paying a
trader a bit less knowing he's not gonna pass it through
the books so to speak (illegal anyway).

And besides, you seem desperate to buy a bit of old CB
crap, and when compared to something like an FT817 or a
used HF rig for about £250, like an old IC735 or TS440
then you are in fact getting very poor value for money, even if you had a very good discount.

Stop moaning and put the cash toward something better than
some CB crap,

Kind regards,

Andy

Andy, I disagree.

I once owned the Mk 1 President Lincoln and it worked a lot of DX. To use your terminology, it was no CB crap. In my view it was a decent single band rig.

Others sell the very same radio (Lincoln Mk II) even by credit card with the same warranty for £25 less. I was giving this well known dealer a chance to get my business. It was not even prepared to give me any discount for "up front" cash payment. I already use FT817s (very good rigs) but was after a low cost 10m mono-bander with a bit more power for use on my favourite band mainly on SSB.

Andy, some sell the same Mk II rig for the same price as Nevada with a 2 yr manufacturer's warranty rather than 1 yr from Nevada. I was surprised a major UK dealer could not even attempt to match or better this. Nevada lost a valuable customer because basically they could not have cared a toss. Unlike Martin Lynch and Sons who recently went out of their way to make me a happy customer. I remember good service and will use THEM again.

I will either not bother to buy a Lincoln Mk II at all or buy with a better warranty from elsewhere.

Sorry Roger,

I love the technical stuff you do but I agree with Andy completely here

I fully respect the views of everyone here. We may not agree, but that is part of healthy debate.

What a can of worms this has opened up.. its only a radio does it matter what we use? Spark gap transmitters all welcome!

As regards Martin Lynch and sons. I sent them a cheque for a 10m multi mode handheld (basically a CB rig) during the peak of the last sunspot cycle. They promptly cashed my cheque but no rig arrived. I phoned them after some weeks to be told they had a shipping problem. After several months I wrote requesting my money back and my letter was ignored.
They took my money when they did not have the equipment in stock. They did not inform me of this and then they kept my money. A bit different your experience ! Maybe I should contact them again but I have long since given up on seeing either my radio or my money again which has left me a little upset to say the least !

Hi John, very sorry top hear of your experience. IO am going by my own recent experiences. I found my package was missing an essential patch coax lead that is no longer supplied by the manufacturer (LDG) and they sent out one in a separate package FOC to me right away. I really cannot fault MLS in any way. Good discount too for cash up front. Cannot fault the 2014 buying experience. Maybe staff and culture have changed? Thoroughly good lot was my experience of Martin Lynch and Sons.

I Agree with Roger - the Linoln is interesting - and it looks pretty good cosmetically. And you can get variations on pricing but beware they're not getting rid of duff stock if its very cheap.

Good point Tony. Maybe I should wait a few months if I decide to
buy.

Roger thanks. Maybe you are right about a change at ML&S. Perhaps I should contact them again but I doubt they will have any record now. I should have tried harder at the time but was very busy at work. (That's why I thought a 10m rig in my pocket would be great)!

Heard someone on 10 AM with a Ranger RCI 2970 DX and it sounded good. Think they cost more than the Lincoln and they're not what you'd call QRP though.
Wish I'd bought a Liner 10 when they were available !

Does CB has a bad reputation in UK ?

There was a problem in the UK with AM 11m activity before it got legalised - maybe that was the bad reputation!

CB's might not be calibrated/set up as well at the factory as Amateur gear is.
