630m WSPR TX (Thursday) - back on transmit!

I checked the transverter oscillator was working and power was being produced into a dummy load, but there is no current showing in the antenna current meter. Maybe the fault is with this?

So, I tested the transverter connecting it directly to the earth-electrode "antenna" in the ground (no matching transformer). Every TX period I received 4-7 spots per TX period. My ERP is at most 10mW, probably far less.

Furthermost was 209km.

630m WSPR RX (Sunday)

As usual, I am on 630m WSPR RX. So far (at 0730z) 3 stations spotted.

UPDATE 2107z:  5 stations spotted.

630m (472 kHz) WSPR RX

As per previous recent evenings, I have QSYed to 630m WSPR RX using the earth-electrode "antenna" in the ground. So far, just G1GKN (54km) spotted.

630m WSPR RX last night

Last night, 6 stations were spotted. I think I have spotted 8 unique stations on the band this autumn. I must get back on TX!

630m WSPR RX (Wednesday)

Once again, I have QSYed to 630m WSPR RX with my earth-electrode "antenna" in the ground. So far, no spots.

UPDATE 2020z:
The spots so far this evening are shown in the table.

630m WSPR overnight

My RX was on overnight, but just the 4 stations spotted in the evening copied. It is not worth staying on overnight.

Plans for the day (Monday)

As we are out some of today, I shall probably go on 472 kHz WSPR RX this evening. It is getting later in the season, so I have no idea how it will go. I shall probably have to use the coax to my 2m big-wheel antenna with some loading.

630m (472 kHz) WSPR RX

Last evening the furthermost was SM6BGP  (994km). On my screen it said 1003km, but I am not arguing. I am on 630m RX again this evening.  Still using the coax to my 2m big-wheel and a mains plug earth. Tuning is again via the ferrite rod on the shack desk.

UPDATE  1950z:  Quite a decent start.

630m (472 kHz) WSPR RX

For the first time this season I am on 630m (472 kHz) WSPR RX.

As my son managed to cut my earth-electrode "antenna" in the ground whilst gardening and being "helpful", I am having to use the coax up to my 2m big-wheel with a ferrite rod ATU, much as in this photo of 10 years ago shows.

The noise level is S8 on the FT817ND's meter.

UPDATE 2118z:  unique stations spotted with the furthermost GM4SJB (692km).

How do you start on 472 kHz (630m)?

This is a question I am often asked. Many people are under the illusion that huge antennas and extensive grounds are needed. This is definitely not true!! I am sure that if you want to work vast distances then these would help, but I have had great success on WSPR around Europe with just my simple QRP transverter and my earth-electrode "antenna" in the ground. I have also had some international QSOs with these around Europe.
