Results published for 144MHz UKAC (03/05/22)

The results of the latest 2m activity contest run by the RSGB have been published. In the low power section I have climbed from 81st to 70th place. At this rate I might win the section by 2060!!

FT8 activity contest on 70cm

This evening is the FT8 activity contest on 70cms. Already at 1730z, several Gs are getting ready.

See https://www.rsgbcc.org/cgi-bin/contest_rules.pl?contest=70cmsgmac .

In all, 37 stations spotted on a 2m big-wheel omni antenna!!

70cm activity contest (UKAC)

Last evening I took part (briefly) in the 70cm activity contest organised by the RSGB. As I have no antennas for 70cm horizontal I went on for about 50 minutes with 10W to my 2m big-wheel omni.

3 QSOs were made before I stopped because of my poor voice with the best being G4CLA (105km).

2m activity contest (UKAC)

Last night was the May 2022 leg of the UKAC activity contest organised by the RSGB. In the 50 minutes I was on, I managed 6 QSOs with the furthermost G4RUL/P (172km) on the south coast.

70cm activity contest last Tuesday

At the moment I have no 70cm horizontal antennas so I use my 2m big-wheel omni antenna. Because of my poor voice I usually stay on for about 45 minutes. I run 10W SSB  QRP. Last week I had 3 QSOs with the furthermost 105km.

70cm activity contest (UKAC)

Last evening I took part in the 70cm activity contest with 10W and my 2m big-wheel omni. I did not stop on long as my voice was poor.

In all, I made 3 contacts with the best G4CLA (105km). These UKAC sessions are good fun.

70cm UKAC results

On the second Tuesday of the month the RSGB organises an activity contest on 70cm.  Even though I can only run 10W to a 2m omni, I usually go on. This time, I only stayed on for a short while, because of my poor voice, making just 1 valid QSO. One other one was rejected as "not in the log".   Better luck next month?

2m activity contest results

A few weeks ago I entered this 2m activity contest organised by the RSGB. After just 1 QSO I gave up with my low power and omni antenna. My poor voice is not really any good in contests these days!

These activity "contests" are more about activity than contesting. In the past, I have always found them friendly.

The results are now available.

70cm FT8 activity contest

Starting at 1900z is the RSGB organised UKAC 70cm activity contest.

A brief 2.5W TX period to the 2m big-wheel omni antenna resulted in nobody copying me. 8 stations have already been spotted prior to the contest (booking their spots?) with the furthermost PE1ITR (360km).

UPDATE 2150z:  45 stations spotted. 2 QSOs, spotted by 5 stations on 2.5W QRP to the 2m big-wheel.

2m RSGB activity contest (UKAC)

This contest was on this evening. Usually I work about 8-10 stations, but tonight I worked just one before giving up.

Some good distances were spotted, but there seemed fewer people on. Whatever I tried, I seemed unable to break through with my poor voice. I only tried for about 30 minutes with the big-wheel omni and 10W.

70cm activity contest results

The RSGB has just published the latest update to the results of the 70cm activity contest (UKAC). Even though I only made a small handful of contacts, my position is up!

2m activity contest results

The results for this activity contest have just been released. This year, I am donating my points towards the Cambridge Radio Club (CDARC).

As I usually run 10W to an omni antenna for much less than an hour, because of my poor voice, I doubt my points help much!

Most activity is on SSB and activity levels are usually very high.

70cm activity contest

This was this evening, although I only stayed on for 28 minutes because of my poor voice. As usual, I was using 10W to the 2m big-wheel omni antenna. My biggest "get away" was a station on the south coast. In all, 4 QSOs were had although many more would have been possible had I stopped on longer.

70cm activity contest yesterday

Last evening I had a go at the 70cm activity contest (UKAC) with 10W to the 2m big-wheel omni antenna. After 3 QSOs, I had to stop because of my poor voice. If I had been able to stop on longer, many more stations would have been worked.

A station in Shropshire (IO82) copied me, but we were unable to complete the QSO.

2m activity contest (UKAC) last evening

Last evening I took part in the UKAC activity contest organised by the RSGB. Running 10W to the big-wheel omni antenna, I managed 5 QSOs before I had to stop after about 45 minutes because of my poor voice.

There is a 2m FT8 activity contest this evening starting at 1900z for 2 hours. As my voice is not involved, I may try this with 2.5W.

2m activity contest tonight?

Later I need to check, but usually the first Tuesday of the month is the 2m UKAC. If it is, I shall go on although because of my poor voice I rarely manage to stay on long. Most times I run low power and my big-wheel omni antenna.

UPDATE 0906z:   The activity contest is on tonight.

2m UKAC (November)

Last night was the 2m November leg of the activity contest run by the RSGB. I noticed my antenna had a very high VSWR, so I stopped after just one contact. I have no idea why this was, but must see what it is now.

UPDATE 1005z:  Still high VSWR this morning. On a dummy load VSWR is low. On RX hearing the Kent beacon normally.

70cm (432MHz)

This is a band that seems to have sadly gone out of favour. This evening is the October leg of the 70cm activity contest organised by the RSGB (UKAC). Activity on SSB can be quite good and people are friendly. It starts at 1900z and lasts for 2.5 hours. Even if you just come on for the fun, I can recommend it. I only managed 3 QSOs with 5W and the 2m big-wheel omni antenna (see map).

Unlike lower VHF bands, brief tropo lifts in certain specific directions can be quite common. I suspect aircraft scatter is also more effective than on 2m. It is a pity more stations are not active as it is an interesting band. Antennas look like TV antennas and interference (QRN) is usually much less of an issue.

2m activity contest (UKAC)

This evening, I went on 2m SSB with 10W and the big-wheel omni antenna. I was on for about 30 minutes. GD was heard, but not worked. I stopped early because of my poor voice after working 6 stations.

2m activity contest (UKAC) Tuesday evening

As I was away, I missed the last one, but hope to be on Tuesday evening. Usually I run 2.5W to my omni big-wheel antenna for about an hour.  It is organised by the RSGB. Friendly and fun. Not like an HF contest!
