Staging post - NOT amateur radio

It appears the windmill next door is a staging post for starlings off to roost. It is not uncommon to see 100 on the sails (and a few squabbling on our bird table!) before flying off to their roost. In some parts of the UK,starlings are getting rarer. Not here!

If you look carefully at the photo, you may be able to see them starting to gather.

As you can see, still cold here - minus 4 degrees Celsius mid morning.

The birds - NOT amateur radio

Starlings gather on the sails on the windmill next door.

They do not roost here, but seem to gather here then fly off to their roost.

They remind me of Hitchcock's film "The Birds".

Windmill starlings - NOT amateur radio

Apparently starlings are in decline in the UK. Well, not here! The photo shows the starlings gathering on "our" windmill next door last night. They roost elsewhere, but gather on the windmill sails before flying off.

The photo was taken from our front garden.

Starlings on the windmill - NOT amateur radio

For some reason we have had a lot more starlings stopping by on "our" windmill next door today. They fly off to their roost, but I don't know where this is.

This photo was taken earlier.

Starlings - NOT amateur radio

We live right next to a 200 year old restored windmill. Although this is not a starling roost, it seems to be a place where they congregate on their way to somewhere else. Their favourite spot seems to be on the sails where they gather late afternoon. At one time a few years ago we saw few starlings, although we see plenty here!
