Simple regen RX

Quite often I get asked how simple can you make a receiver that gives useful results.

Of course the simplest of all is a crystal set that does not even need a battery.

The simplest circuit that really works well is probably the one shown. I even adapted this into a 1 FET 80m transceiver. The RX works well on AM, SSB and CW.  By changing the tuned circuit, it will work on different bands. As a transceiver my main issue was netting the RX onto the TX frequency.

There are plenty of similar circuits on the Internet.

Ultra simple RX for 80m or 40m

This is one of the most simple designs that  you will ever find for 80m or 40m RX. It will readily scale to 160m or 60m. I went on to make a transceiver version based on an idea from W2UW (SK). Imagine that - a complete transceiver using just 1 FET (see the FETer).

Simple regen RX

Many people like simple, but effective, receivers. This design is probably one of the simplest you could make. It works very well.  There are several examples of this, and others, on YouTube.

Simple Regen Circuit

Regen receivers amaze me. How something so simple can work so well never fails to intrigue me.

I was looking for a photo I took some years ago, but so far I have failed to find it. I still have the RX in a drawer!

A dead simple regen receiver

There are plenty of designs out there (try Googling "regen"). but I offer you this simple design with very few parts. It works. You may be surprised that something so simple can hear so much.

FET regen circuit

I received this email today:

"Hi Roger

I just wanted to thank you for the Feter Regen on your QRP site.  I have managed to waste several weeks building and experimenting with it. This really is a fun project. The first working regen I have made in many years.

Many thanks and thanks also for all the other informative projects on your Web Pages.

Ray Lyford M0BBV

Sorry for the quality of the Image."

I was very pleased Ray built the circuit and had some fun with it. My main regret is not being able to do much experimentation currently as I am still too wobbly. Hopefully this will get better with time. There is also a very simple transceiver based on this circuit on the website.

Scout Regen RX kit

Hendrick's QRP Kits in the USA have just introduced a nice little regen receiver kit for beginners and more experienced hams and SWLs. The Scout is a simple 2 band regenerative receiver covering from 3.5 -11MHz. It is based on the classic design by Charles Kitchin published in QST some years ago. It is to be launched at Dayton and on sale from May 12th.

See http://www.qrpkits.com/scoutregen.html for more details.
