Had one of those growing in a backyard pot some 20 years ago. I stumbled against it while mowing the lawn and ended up with several two-inch long cactus spikes embedded in my leg. Very impressive protection. Sadly, we had to leave it when we moved from a Mediterranean like climate to one where temps approaching -40 are not unheard of.
