Following Hugh's (HC02) suggestion, I am now looking at this map of 8m Es in Europe.

On the same site is this map showing live Es data for other bands. I get the feeling 8m Es could be promising later.

On the European Es map if a nice patch of10 Metres/28MHz blue lines are appearing it means 8Metres/40 MHz propagation isn't that far behind from becoming active.The yellow 6 Metre ones can take a bit longer.
