ICOM SHF transceiver?

The EI7GL blog has quite a bit about this.

Sadly, I cannot see this ever coming to market. Surely the big manufacturers are only really interested in making money. I can only see this selling in low numbers, hardly covering development costs.

They may use an amateur version to prompt interest in a commercial version by those amateurs who work in the microwave industry.

Many years ago I worked for Microwave Associates who produced 10GHz and 24GHz Gunn oscillators/Schottky detectors which were sold at cost to the amateur market. These were intended to promote interest in the commercial versions for professional microwave link applications.

Of course, it helped that at that time senior management were all radio amateurs….

I think this will come to market as has two popular bands but I would of prefer to have seen 10GHz though instead of 5.6GHz. Depending on the price I would consider it.

ICOM did produce a 23cms only FM/DV transceiver once https://icomuk.co.uk/HM-232-hand-microphone/4082/1273/41/ they sold a few but not the volumes they expected the SHF project does give all modes as far as I read.
