Windows 10 updates - NOT amateur radio

Windows 10 is supposed to be wonderful and safe. Yet again I have waited about 30 minutes whilst updates were installed. If it is so wonderful why are these massive updates needed? To say I am not impressed is an understatement. A good job I wasn't in a hurry.

I run Windows 7 which also had a recent update. As a result, all the audio and PTT settings in my Digipan PSK software were altered and I spent quite some time trying to understand what had happened and how to reset them.

It seems sometimes that it’s less a case of “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” and more a case of “If it ain’t broke, let’s mess with it.”

Regards,
Keith

On my shack PC there is not enough disk space to do the update unless I plug in an external hard drive. Maybe I should not bother?

Trying the move again, I am partitioning the disk off soon, with Linux Mint on one partition, and 10 on the other.

Have tried to move to Linux before, but I ended up back in Windows grasp with no one writing for both formats. Shame really it is VHS and Betamax all over again.

Just an hour ago I received a notification that Microsoft is discontinuing support for Windows 7 - no more updates or security fixes....

For my next computer I am seriously thinking about a small Chromebook.
