PSKreporter is used often here to see what is being spotted on 6m FT8. Today I went on and there appears to be some changes to the maps. For now, I am reserving judgment. I quite liked the "old" style, but perhaps I am just a boring old man! Some would be ruder!
I have not tried the maps with other modes. Usually I choose "FT8" from the drop down menu.

I have no information behind the change, but the switch from Google Maps to Open Street Maps may be necessary if the site starts to use up it's daily free API allotment allowed by Google, which we have seen happen at WSPRNet a few times. The PSKReporter owner has set the max zoom level quite high, which I don't really like. I think the Google Maps version allowed a bit closer.

I use two browsers here and the map you see on the PSK reporter website seems to depend on what browser you use. On Firefox, it changed from Google Maps to Open Street. On Chrome, it stayed with Google Maps.

I use Edge. On Edge the bit showing where most of the stations are spotted is black. On Android (Chrome?) it is semi-opaque so you can still see underneath.

This sounds like the "night shadow". You can hide it under "Display Option" - top line of text, far right side.
After you "click" on "Display Options" you will get a pop up window, third line from the top is to "Hide night shadow".
If you select this option and close the pop up window, you will need to click "Go!" to refresh the display.

Update. It looks as if it may not be browser dependant after all. I refreshed the PSK Reporter page on Chrome and it returned using OpenStreet.
Graham - no, not night shadow, which I am aware of and sometimes turn off. This is the bit that shows where the majority of stations spotted come from. As I said, black (was semi-transparent) with Edge but OK with my Android tablet.
Firefox seems fine.
