For a change, I am trying 15m QRP FT8 with my QMX+ transceiver. Within a few minutes I was being spotted by 48 stations and I had spotted 38...

Yes, this approach, which could "grow" over time, would be a neat way of starting out on 10GHz. Start with the basic system PCB, then add RX preamp and a TX PA.
I don't know about 10GHz, but off the top of my head I know of two other sources for Ham microwave stuff:
