Wonder why the economy is in a mess?

"Virtually all U.S. senators, and most of the representatives in the House, are members of the top 1 percent when they arrive, are kept in office by money from the top 1 percent, and know that if they serve the top 1 percent well they will be rewarded by the top 1 percent when they leave office. By and large, the key executive-branch policymakers on trade and economic policy also come from the top 1 percent."

This is a quote from a recent article in Vanity Fair.

A similar situation exists here in the UK. In my view this is a situation which cannot be sustained and we need to wake up and do something about it.

If I were back in the States, I'd be on the streets RIGHT NOW! Some Americans have finally gotten off their butts and marching again. Note, the most conservative Republicans are calling them a mob. Martial law on the way?

The materialistic, "democratic" western economies seem to be breaking down. I still cannot believe that all of this mess stems from sub-prime deals. Are we really being asked to believe that "they" did not know what they were doing? There is something engineered about this whole thing. And they (the 1%?) are STILL talking about buying banks, with OUR money!

If the economy was a compute program it would be terminated!! There must be a better system than this. It's all not as if it's an immutable law of physics - it's just ink on paper that we give some arbitrary value too.

(1) The freshmen Tea Party members elected in 2010 are not beholding to this 1% nonsense. They are sticking to their convictions - stop the irresponsible spending.

(2) Talk about beholding to the elite 1%, Obama will go into the next presidential election with a record-shattering one billion US Dollar war chest!

(3) Forming your opinions based on what Vanity Fair has to say is really not a good idea.

David,

As a so-called "democracy" you will be able to vote for any of the (very rich) politicians that stand. My views are arrived at by all the means available to me. I see what I see, and it sickens me.

I'm not responsible for the second Anonymous comment by "David", only the first!

@Julian. I had heard of this organisation. There are times when I feel I am living a real version of "The Matrix"!
