Inside Ely Cathedral - NOT amateur radio

This was built in 1080. It is hard to think people have worshipped here in this building for around 1000 years.  It's our local  cathedral that can be seen from miles away. 

6m 6W FT8 (Saturday)

My gear was turned on at  0837z. Already spotted by 15 stations including one in Portugal. 

UPDATE 1612z : 116 stations have spotted me today. See map. 

10m WSPR (Saturday)

 My 500mW beacon was turned on at  0836z.

UPDATE 0906z: Spotted by 1 Austrian  station. It's interesting that this station has spotted me 10 times  but not a single spot  from central Europe on 6m FT8. 

UPDATE 1521z: 19 stations have spotted me today.

10m 500mW WSPR ( Friday)

My little beacon has been on most of the day with no spots. Maybe something is wrong?

UPDATE 1550z:  As far as I can see everything is correct. Reset the time sync..

6m QRP FT8 (Friday)

My 6W FT8 has been on much of the day .

UPDATE 1616z: So far today spotted by 75 stations with the furthest Israel. See map. 

Lunch out - NOT amateur radio

 We had lunch out in Ely today. My wife had a healthy starter, but mine was less so 😉.

Human consciousness - NOT amateur radio

Death puzzles me. 

When we die we no longer have brain cells so whatever makes us who we are no longer exists . We really know so little. 

Indeed I cannot know if anyone really exists! To me,  time is real and  passes, but I have no way to tell if this is there for those  other than me! 

Maybe  the whole universe is just in my head and is unique to everyone. 

Do we really have memories or are we just programmed to think we have  memories?

Maybe I think too much!

Anglesey Abbey - NOT amateur radio

Yesterday we went to Anglesey Abbey near Cambridge for a walk around the grounds.  

This is the house. 

The grounds are extensive. 

10m QRP WSPR (Thursday)

 My 500mW beacon was turned on at 0800z. 

UPDATE 0814z: No spots. 

UPDATE 2206z: 15 stations have spotted me today.  Now QRT. 

6m QRP FT8 (Thursday)

My 6W FT8 was turned on at 0800z.

UPDATE 0841z:  13 stations have spotted me. All of these are English plus one GM.  It always surprises me how far away my 6W to the vertical gets spotted in England.

UPDATE 1310z:  72 stations have spotted me so far today. See map. 

UPDATE 2205z: 126 stations spotted me today.

We go for a walk here regularly as it is only a few miles away  by  car.

My 500mW beacon was turned on mid morning 

UPDATE 2150z: 41 stations have spotted me in the last  12 hours. Today was a good Es day.

6m QRP FT8 (Wednesday)

 From late morning I have been on 6m QRP FT8.

UPDATE 2155z: 467 stations spotted me. We are clearly in the Es season!

QRP transceiver

This ultra simple 40m CW transceiver was  originally from Brazil.  

In its original form it was even simpler  without the IC.

This version is called the Pititico 2 from the DX Explorer YouTube website .

Marconi

 

Marconi is considered the father of radio.  

At one time I  nearly  joined the  Marconi  company  in Chelmsford  on a long  sandwich  course.

 Sadly I QSYed from 8m FT8 to 6m FT8 and immediately got spotted by  6 stations yet no spots all day on 8m

I think from now on I will stick with 6m.
