Spring coming? - NOT amateur radio

We went for a walk at nearby Anglesey Abbey yesterday. Most of the snowdrops are on the verge of coming out and some daffodils are out. In a few weeks most will be out.

Spring and hope are around the corner.

Blossom - NOT amateur radio

The photo shows fallen blossom on a path a few years ago.  It was one of my FaceBook memories.  Most blossom has now fallen. Spring is one of the best times of the year with fresh green leaves, daffodils and blossom. It is as if the earth wakes up again and bursts forth.

Spring colours - NOT amateur radio

Spring has sprung as witnessed by this blossom photographed by my wife yesterday.

Spring - NOT amateur radio

Although we can definitely get bad weather still, it feels like a corner has been turned and spring has come as the photo shows.

Daffodils are looking good in our village.

The clocks change to British Summer Time (BST) this weekend. Next week it is lighter in the evenings and not dark until about 7.45pm local time. We change from "indoor mode" to "outdoor mode". Sadly, this means cutting the grass!

Spring flowers - NOT amateur radio

The flowers in the photo were spotted by my wife a few days ago.

We are now officially in spring by any measure. The UK Met Office counts March 1st as the first day of spring whereas the traditional start is the spring equinox.

In the weeks ahead we will see migrant birds like swallows returning.

The UK clocks change to British Summer Time (BST) next weekend.

Almost spring - NOT amateur radio

We went for a walk around the village earlier. It felt very mild and springlike. Daffodils are coming out widely now as shown in the photo.

As we are only in February there is every chance for some bad weather and snow still.

Spring coming - NOT amateur radio

All the seasons have their own beauty, but this winter has felt very long. At last there are signs of spring coming.

The daffodils in the photo are under a tree in our close.  In a few days some will be in flower. Robins are on high branches singing out to mark their territories. The first daisy has been seen.

Spring is coming! With it, new hope and new life. In a few weeks winter will be gone.

Springtime - NOT amateur radio

Each of us probably has a favourite season. Mine is spring with blossom and fresh green leaves. Blossom soon goes and the green on the trees soon starts to have a summer tired look. Right now, things are at their very best. Winter is behind us and days are getting longer. This collage was from our walk earlier.

More signs of spring - NOT amateur radio

In these strange days, we try to keep a routine by doing a daily walk. We see very few people and those we do are very good about social distancing. This tree (see photo) is another sign of spring.

Although there are swallows in Devon (migrant birds), I have yet to see any here in East Anglia.

Spring promises - NOT amateur radio

Everywhere we look now there are signs of spring. New buds on trees, blossom and, of course, as the photo shows, daffodils. According to the UK Met Office it is already spring.

Spring - NOT amateur radio

On Sunday, we start meteorological spring. Not before time as we have had a dreadful February with lots of wind and rain.

This part of the UK has escaped lightly, but some parts have had heavy snow and others bad floods. It has been mild with few frosts here, but much wetter than when I first came to this area. Spring flowers are now appearing and not soon enough.

Springtime - NOT amateur radio

Most of the spring daffodils are now dying, some weeks before Easter. Tulips tend to be short-lived but nice whilst they last. Many of the UK fields are sown with yellow rapeseed. To some the smell of these is off-putting.

Unless I am mistaken, next weekend is the US Masters golf from Augusta, Georgia, USA. They always seem to have plenty of colourful flowers for the TV cameras. Another year gone - where did it fly?

Flowers - NOT amateur radio

The collage shows some of the spring flowers seen recently on walks. Although it is dull today, one feels spring has finally arrived after a long, wet, winter.

Ephemeral Spring - NOT amateur radio

Spring is ephemeral. At the moment, we have fresh green leaves and blossom. Sadly, in a few weeks this will all be gone.

Tulips - NOT amateur radio

It is hard to think that in the 1600s tulip bulbs were worth more than houses in Holland until the price crashed and lots of people lost lots of money.

We have had a strange spring. Daffodils were late, but now are mostly dead. Tulips are mainly dying now. I saw my first swallow earlier this year than previous years here in East Anglia.

Our garden always looks at its best at this time of the year. The blossom is largely out and the green on the trees is "spring fresh".

Spring - NOT amateur radio

It is starting to feel a bit like spring here. On average, temperatures are milder and there are stirrings in the garden with fresh buds appearing.

Daffodils, that were late, are now everywhere. Another few weeks and it really will be spring again. When the clocks change to BST and the African migrant birds return it really will be spring.

Some people hate fields of yellow rape, although to me it is a sign of warmer days. I like to see this crop.

Spring? - NOT amateur radio

It is really hard to think we are already a third of the way through March already. Time flies!

Yesterday I cut our lawns for the first time this year. It really felt like spring had come: it was mild, sunny and pleasant outside. We have had a long, damp, mild winter and I am now looking forward to lighter evenings again.

Every season has something good, but I like the spring best of all as it is filled with hope.

Signs of spring - NOT amateur radio

After a long, damp, mild winter here in East Anglia, UK there are now signs of spring. There are fresh buds on the trees and bushes in the garden, daffodils are now out and today we saw our first lambs.

Won't be long now to lighter evenings and cutting the grass!

Soon be spring - NOT amateur radio

As Storm Doris rages outside, there are signs that spring is not far away. Daffodils are at last coming out in our garden and in our road and last weekend there were plenty of snowdrops out. Aconites are also appearing. The first swallows (birds) should arrive here from Africa in about 6-7 weeks' time.

Spring hints - NOT amateur radio

Already there are signs of spring.

Yes, we are still in the depths of winter, but snowdrops are well out and there are now plenty of aconites, although very few daffodils yet; in a few weeks these will be out too. This is a quiet lane in our village, taken on a walk this afternoon.

Already the evenings are drawing in an hour later. Still winter, but hopeful signs.
