Goats, rabbits and pigs

Amateur radio activity has been on hold this week as our younger grandson has been here to stay. Today we went to Wimpole Home Farm and he enjoyed making friends with the goats, rabbits and pigs. Here he is trying to get friendly with some very tame goats.

Inactive week radiowise

This week I've been very inactive on the radio because we have had our grandson's 3rd birthday party here with his French grandparents (neither of whom speak English) staying along with his mum and dad. Still, a lovely time was had and he got lots of nice presents. By the way, he now knows the difference between square waves and sine waves and loves going "oo oo", which means fiddling with the audio oscillator and scope.

A nice break from the radio

For the last few days we've been looking after our 2yr 10month old grandson and this has meant a break from radio during the period as he sleeps in the room used as the shack. During the days we've been enjoying some great things including a trip to the seaside, a visit to a farm with lots of young animals, picking blackberries and similar, simple pleasures. On Wednesday it will be back on with the 136kHz experiments, but we'll miss his company.

Grandchildren time

After a busy few days building LF kit (and blowing it up!) it is now time again for our grandchildren. Our younger grandson came to stay last weekend and this weekend we have our elder grandson with us. The picture here is with me in the lane close to our home on his way to feed Maggie the horse, who is a favourite with both grandchildren.

A very young trainee engineer?

This afternoon I had some "help" from a budding radio engineer aged 2.5yrs - my young grandson. We were in the lab mending a toy fire engine (see picture) but he was more interested in twiddling the audio generator and listening to the tones and watching these on the oscilloscope. 500kHz WSPR running today

The 500kHz WSPR beacon is running today but is unlikely to be on this week very much as we have our grandchildren coming to stay, so there will be a happy chaos about the place! Only M0LMH has spotted me so far this morning, at 223kms. Last night I got reports from G, GM, ON and DL.

Grandson 2

Our second grandson,  is on holiday with in-laws in Australia. We've just been sent this nice picture of him. He is clearly enjoying himself.

Help in the shack?

Contest operating was a little slower this morning as I had a "little helper" in the shack. This is my 14 month old grandson who is staying with us at the moment.

He was fascinated by the morse key, so there is hope that a future radio ham is in the making.
