One consequence will be fewer dealers advertising in magazines. Expect fierce battles to win trade. Either Nevada runs pages of adverts or it will be curtains for Practical Wireless (PW).
The next few years are critical for the Amateur Radio Service. How many amateur radio magazines will there be in future? I am not sure of the situation in other countries, but here in the UK, there is just one independent amateur radio monthly magazine. I think this is struggling.
I would be worried if I was running a magazine, as there will be less advert revenue to go around now, will PW be the next to merge with Radcom?

Amateur radio magazines are a dying breed. In 10 years time I can see many going completely or at the very least far smaller and less frequent.
ReplyDeleteAs long as SPRAT remains.... HI
ReplyDeleteI can imagine PW losing a few pages and going quarterly, or going completely.
ReplyDeleteMMmm .... so we ae down to RSGB/RadCom sponsored by MLS, and PW mag sponsored by Nevada Moonraker and W&S.
ReplyDeleteIf I were the RSGB I would be worried about MLS taking over the Society, they already run the RSGB convention, and sustain the RadCom.
Bottom line is there isn't enough ham radio business to sustain all these businesses. Both Nevada and W&S owners must surely be looking to retire soon .....
Personally I hope PW continues and Radcom disappears. Less and less of interest for me in Radcom. I'll keep reading the CDXC digest and SPRAT :-)
