TUI - NOT amateur radio

In the past we have had some great holidays in Corfu with TUI (now part of Thompson).  Sadly, we had to cancel our latest planned trip as holidays to Greece were likely to be axed because of the Covid-19 pandemic. We were promised a 70% refund within 5 working days.

10 weeks later we are still waiting for our refund!

On the BBC TUI is consistently mentioned as being one of the worst companies in this crisis. We have emailed several times and these bounced. We waited for 2 hours on the phone to be given an email that immediately bounced. They seem to be hopeless at communicating with their customers.

Based on their recent performance, they have lost a valued customer.

  1. If you paid by credit card, the card issuer should refund the amount owing, especially of you can provide evidence that TUI promised a 70% refund that hasn't been paid. The card issuer has joint liability under section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act.

In retrospect, it might have been better to have waited for TUI to cancel the holiday, instead of cancdelling it yourself. If that had happened, you'd have been entitled to a 100% refund. Good luck.

  2. Yes, I was aware of that, but I was afraid they might not cancel and I would have to go or lose everything if I decided later not to travel. This was a risk I was not prepared to take. BTW, yes I did pay by credit card and have proof of the refund owed to me by TUI.

  3. They may have lost a valuable customer but they've showed that you weren't a valued customer.

  4. Sherm, absolutely correct. Their hopeless customer handling has demonstrated that they could not care at all.
