FT8 digital mode
This new digital mode is available in a beta release of WSJT-X. Although keen to give this new mode a try, I think I'll wait until it is formally released, although I am told it is already being widely used on 20m.
Thats very true Roger the BATA is out but then are some possible bugs as well. I agree that sometimes it's worth the wait to get the BATA testing done and the regular release done. 73, Mike
Hello Roger, I have been testing the mode. It is not really a "weak" signal mode although it decodes till -20dB. I've seen -22dB decodes now on 10m. The mode is fast and you need to reply to a CQ within 2 seconds. It might be too fast for you. However, rumours are that FT8 gets the ability to respond to the weakest caller. That would mean it could reply automatically when you give CQ. This could be very controversial as that would mean the whole QSO is automatic like in SIM31. 73, Bas
