To me, this has to be the answer to a carbonless future with regard to road vehicles. Southgate News reports on trials in France and Israel where the road has embedded wireless charging for road vehicles. This means smaller, lighter, batteries in the vehicles, a longer battery life, and greater range.

The coupling losses will be very high.. you will throw away most of your power. I think the real answer is in the new generation of batteries with high capacity and low weight, coupled to high efficiency solar. G6AIG Hugh
ReplyDeleteThanks Hugh. But improvements in battery technology are very slow and personally, unless there is a really major advance, I cannot see battery cars ever managing the range needed. Coupling losses may be high but you would only need batteries for roads without embedded power, so cars would be cheaper, lighter and more efficient. Cost of replacement batteries would be lower. What a use for wind and solar.
ReplyDeleteThe QRM will be horrible, I'm afraid....
ReplyDeleteOE1WKL - good point!
ReplyDeleteSounds nice. But have you ever thought about the polution making batteries. Switching to electric cars can be even more catastrophic for our world then other solutions. But as long as we have a good feeling in our western world nobody cares. 73, Bas
