Whatever your views on the causes of climate change, it is a FACT that the Earth is currently warming and sea levels are rising. This interactive map allows you to put in the likely sea level rise, in 1m steps, to see how the coastline would change. Some places are little changed but others are e.g. The Netherlands and the Fens in the UK.
A draft text for an agreement on climate change reduction has been released today in Copenhagen. It needs a lot of work.
Sea levels have been rising for a century or more. Thinking, like King Canute, that you can prevent it is absurd. Copenhagen has been a complete waste of time. People should be planning for how to deal with problems like this instead of trying to limit carbon emissions which won't stop it anyway even if the limits were achieved which they won't be due to rising population numbers and much else.
ReplyDeleteNot prevent Julian, but at least try to minimise the FURTHER increases resulting from man-made action, which we can slow. I agree that we need to be planning coping strategies as well because sea rise is inevitable.
ReplyDeleteHello Roger, I think I am gonna build myself a boat. Just now we live below sea level. 73 Paul
ReplyDeleteA houseboat may be the norm in coastal areas in 100 years time Paul. There are plenty of good examples in The Netherlands!
